About the artist "Kurukku"

A metalsmith artist who grew up
in the countryside, passionate about all living things

Raised in a nature-rich environment of rivers and rice fields,

she grew up with creatures as her closest companions.

but her curiosity extends across all vertebrates, insects, plants, and microorganisms.

She lives with her husband and two sons.

She creates her works daily in a home studio.

The Creative Process ~ Making a Creature Accessory ~

1. Admiring the creature

The creative process begins with admiring the chosen creature. Visiting zoos, frequenting museums, reading research papers — it's a blissful time spent fully savoring the wonder and joy of living things. While learning about the creature's ecology, she develops the concept and structure of each piece.

2. Drawing the design

Once the concept takes shape, the design is drawn on paper. She usually draws by hand. Moving the pencil reveals the charming lines and body structure of each creature in a way that deepens understanding.

Design sketches are also shared on Instagram

3. Cutting the brass

Using the design sketch as a guide, the brass is cut with a jeweler's saw. Every step is done entirely by hand — a steady back-and-forth process. Fine lines are achieved by drilling holes and sawing through them, or by engraving with a rotary tool.

4. Finishing

The cut brass is smoothed using a rotary tool and files. The visual change is subtle, but the difference in feel is significant. Finally, the surface is polished to a bright shine with a buffing wheel and polishing compound.

Care

Care Instructions

Care Instructions

Brass deepens in color over time, taking on a beautiful antique quality as it ages.

When you want to restore its shine, simply polish it with a metal polishing cloth.

Brief contact with water is fine, but prolonged exposure can cause discoloration or rust. Please wipe away any water droplets or sweat as soon as possible with a soft cloth.

About Brass

Brass develops a richer color over time and can be restored by polishing.

Contact with water is fine, but leaving it wet for a long time can cause staining — please wipe it dry.

Green patina (verdigris) may develop, but it is harmless to the body and can be removed by polishing.
